Other discounts

In addition to waivers and discounts, we offer other discounts to enable authors to cover their Article Processing Charge (APC).

BMJ Open Access Agreement Members: A number of institutions have chosen an open access agreement  which can cover the whole cost of open access publishing for authors at participating institutions or may allow authors to receive a discounted APC.

Reviewers: In recognition of reviewers’ support for our journals, any reviewer that returns a full review on time can receive a 25% discount on the APC for a paper for which they are the corresponding author, if submitted within 12 months of completing the review to the same journal they reviewed for. Please note that this does not apply to journals with a hybrid open access option and to some of our fully open access journals. Please check the individual journal website for details.

Affiliated Society Members: Many of our open access journals also offer discounts to members of affiliated societies. Please check the website for the journal you are submitting to for more information. These discounts will be journal- specific.

Subscribers of Research to Publication:   As a subscription benefit, all registered users are entitled to a significant discount on article processing charges for papers accepted into any of BMJ’s journals. *

*Discounts are determined by The World Bank and Hinari classifications. Discounts don’t apply to publications in BMJ Case Reports.

Refund policy – We do not offer refunds of APCs once articles have been published.
