Recognition for reviewers

Reviewers are the backbone of the publishing process. Without peer review, research would not be reliable or trustworthy. BMJ recognises reviewers for their critical role they play in the research process and wants to encourage good standards of review; here are some of the rewards that we offer our reviewers:

  • APC discounts Reviewers on our fully open access journals receive a 25% discount on OA charges if they submit an article as a corresponding author within a year of submitting their review. To claim your discount, contact the Editorial Office of the journal you submitted a review for. We will check your eligibility and provide you with a code to enter at payment stage prior to publication of your own article.
  • Automatic ORCID accreditation – Reviewers on all BMJ journals can opt in to automatically update their ORCID reviewer profiles and receive credit for their reviewer output. All you have to do is to log in to our ScholarOne submission system with your ORCID ID, or update your ORCID ID through your account. For every review you provide, the system will ask you if you’d like ORCID credit for it. Once you confirm, your ORCID profile will be updated in less than a minute.
  • CME creditsEditors rate reviews based on timeliness and quality. On selected journals we offer up to 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for reviews with the highest marks, in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. If you are eligible you will receive an email with a BMJ-specific link to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation website, where you can fill in a short form to receive your CME credits.
  • Reviewer certificates – Upon request BMJ provides certificates for completed reviews. Contact the Editorial Office of the journal you submitted the review for. We will verify your review and send you your certificate.
  • Annual list of reviewersOnce a year, reviewers on all BMJ journals are publicly listed in our annual list of reviewers, where we say thank you for your contribution to maintaining the quality of research literature.
